"Hongkou Events" And The China-Rok Relations

There is a long history of exchanges between China and Korea. In modern times, China and Korea has also suffered from Japanese imperialism and aggression.In 1910, Japan annexed Korea, a large number of Korean patriots flee overseas, continuing anti-Japanese independence movement. To force the National Government of China recognizes its occupation of Manchuria, and also for the transfer of international attention, reducing international pressure, Japan launched a war of aggression in Shanghai on January 28, 1932, "1·28 Incident" outbreak. Facing Japanese imperialist aggression, the 19th National Revolutionary Army stationed in Shanghai rose in revolt, "Battle of Shanghai" began. Because of the national government's concession, ultimately, China and Japan signed the "Shanghai Armistice Agreement" which detracted China's interests. Although, the two sides signed a cease-fire agreement, the conflict has dramatically increased. Both the Chinese community and high-level Chinese government resent extremely against Japanese aggression. It is against this background, Korea patriotic groups headed by Kim koo planned and implemented the shocked "Hongkou events", which killed and wounded number of Japan's military and political officials, combating immensely to the Japanese imperialist's arrogant aggression, demonstrating the Korean anti-Japanese struggle fearless spirit. More importantly, this event caused great concern in the Chinese Nationalist Government, the Chinese Nationalist Government began to consider changing the past of the Korean Provisional Government indifference. After careful consideration, the Chinese Nationalist government decided to actively aid the Korean Provisional Government. Since then, China and Korea started to form joint anti-Japanese situation."Hongkou events " which was the turning point in China-ROK relations event and the new starting point of the two peoples of China-ROK Joining exteriors for unity against Japan has an important position in the modern history of relations between China and Korea. The incident also cast off the long plight of the provisional government of the Republic of Korea, it also advanced the Korean independence movement to a new development.This paper on "Hongkou incident" occurred before and after the Sino-ROK relations in-depth exposition, to show the whole picture changes during the Sino-ROK relations and to explore the reasons for their change of significance.
