One of the main characteristic of Chinese is that there are a number of synonyms of a word. It is important for English-speakers to learn them when they study Chinese. This paper mainly talked about "Classroom Teaching on Synonym Discrimination of Teaching Chinese to American students with Entry and Intermediate level."Synonym Discrimination is an important part for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. Currently there is lack of a discriminating method of comparatively systematic and easy for operating, especially for the students who study in their own country without Chinese environment. This paper bases on the studying results that has been raised on discrimination method of synonym, also raised my own point of view-how to teach synonym in classroom teaching. This paper mainly includes:The main factors why it's difficult to learn Chinese synonyms; The main causes of errors on how to use synonyms; The rules and method of how to teach synonyms in classroom teaching.As we know, students taking Chinese as a foreign language make different kinds of mistakes and the main causes include the following factors:besides the cultural factor, Chinese Culture-loaded words and Chinese-English non-equivalence words, side-effect from their first language. There are few good textbooks illustrating synonym discrimination, teaching methodology, etc. Vocabulary teaching is an important subject in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, which not only runs through the whole teaching procedures, but also is contained in various types of language teachings. The study tries to distinguish and describe comprehensively the meaning of the synonyms. In the last part, the author put forwards some countermeasures to the synonyms problems in teaching practice also some suggestions. In the teaching practice, the teacher should be proficient in the synonym teaching steps and method, also need to be familiar with the problems in the teaching practice, suit the remedy to the case, improve the quality of teaching Chinese as a second foreign language.
