Language is the most important tool of communication in the society and an embodiment of culture, so cultural teaching plays a pivotal role in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. The fundamental purpose of cultural teaching is to improve language teaching under the influence of cultural considerations so as to improve learners’ cultural proficiency of communication. The emergence of culture-loaded words in teaching Chinese as a foreign language is a result of the development and deposition of culture; these words also become barriers for language learners.Started with the cultural teaching, this paper puts great emphasis on the traditional Chinese culture, analyzing and summarizing four characteristics of traditional Chinese culture. As an integral part of this paper, the core concept, culture-loaded words, are explained and illustrated in detail. They can be categorized into MingWu words、System of words、Idiomatic phrase、 symbolic and metaphor words and Communication words. When teaching culture-loaded words, certain teaching principles and flexible teaching methodologies should be abided by.
