"Yin Yun Novel" is a work compiled by Liang Yinyun with the weird stories and the gossips which can't be included in the official history from Zhou and Qin to Song and Qi. It is one of the most important novels of the dynasty of Six, which includes the hermits, local scenery, geographical landmarks, the unofficial history and the ghosts and gods. This thesis deals with the vocabulary of"Yin Yun novel"from the perspective of disyllabic words for the horizontal and vertical studies. On the horizontal dimension, the author first divides the sentences in the novel into disyllabic words, and then describes each type of these words and studies the internal structure of them. Vertically, the author explores the source of each word and tries to find their starting point, which makes us have a clear understanding of the history of every disyllabic word and finally achieve the purpose of historical research.This paper is divided into six parts. The introduction part gives a description of the author and different editions of the "Yin Yun novel". At the same time the author also introduces the meaning, the status quo, the method and content of this research. The first chapter sets the standard of disyllabic words. This paper refers to the sayings of different scholars and divides disyllabic words of "Yin Yun novel" from six aspects. The second chapter is a synchronic study of disyllabic words in "Yin Yun novel". In this part the author divides disyllabic words of the book into eight categories such as the structure of coordination, the structure of predication, the structure of modifier-modified, overlay structure, non-overlapping simple words and so on. And the author also makes a static description of each category respectively from the perspective of meaning and part of speech. The third chapter is the first part of the diachronic study of the disyllabic words of "Yin Yun novel", in which the author lists a part of vocabulary originating from the Pre-Qin and Han Dynasties. The fourth chapter is the second part of diachronic study in which the author focuses on meaning and usage of polyphonic spoken words of the book popular in the Wei, Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties. The Last part of the paper gives the important conclusions of this research.
