This paper, with the example of Christianity in Datong, talks about how Christianity blends into the local culture, its form and its background. The paper can be divided into five parts.Part 1 is introduction, mainly talking about the works on Christianity in Shanxi. Some of these works aims at general introduction, while others give some deep researches. They summarize the contents referred, and decide the objects and the scale of the research.The next four parts is the body. Part 2 looks back the development history of Christianity in Datong. The parishes, built in 1920s, were printed by the time, for at this time, the society of China was changeable. Part 3 probe into the blend of Christianity and the local religion in Datong. When came to Datong, Buddhism had been successfully blended into the local culture and religion. It is an important issue to discuss about how Christianity is with Buddhism and later become superior to it. Part 4 states the localization of in Datong, which is the main focus of this paper. This chapter mainly discusses two issues. One is the training of local priests, who symbolize the localization of. The author analyses the localization from the reason for training local priests, the way to train them and their importance in religious activities. The other is talking about how the followers develop the traditional customs such as wedding and funeral, etc. The essence is the blending of two cultures. Datong has its own unique culture. Following means the change of locals'belief and their customs. Through blending, followers don't abandon their own culture and customs, which is an important characteristic of localization of Christianity.Part 5 analyses the characteristics of Christianity in Datong, and the deep culture behind it. With less education, the followers in Datong are affected by the thoughts of material gain. They choose Christianity somewhat for utility.Part 6 is the conclusion based on the whole paper, that is, culture is two-way exchanged. When two cultures are shocked, both of them will changed, more of less.
