Economic and cultural globalization has set an increasingly high demand on vocational education. English, as an international language, has been one of the most important courses in the college curriculums. However, in spite of the efforts of both teachers and students, the teaching outcome is not as satisfactory as widely expected. As a matter of fact, the current situation of English teaching in vocational colleges is that English teachers still adopt the traditional teaching methods, which can not arouse students'interests and motivation. In order to change the situation, an increasing number of teachers are exploring new teaching methods. With regard to the vocational students' own features, the author believes that the application of multimedia is an efficient way to arouse their English study enthusiasm.Media is a tool that is used to convey and store educational information, which plays an important part in teaching. For example, it can help stimulate students'study interest and creativity, increasing students'background knowledge and so on, which helps improve English teaching efficiency. However, there are still some disadvantages in vocational multimedia English teaching nowadays. Some teachers only pursue beautiful and colorful courseware, which may distract the students from what they should learn. Besides, there are still teachers who ignore the active role of students, they just talk and talk in the classroom, never taking students'reaction into consideration.The thesis made a systematic study on multimedia-assisted English teaching in vocational colleges from both theoretical and practical aspects. It is intended to get a general picture of the present situation and problems existing in vocational multimedia English teaching through the survey of multimedia-assisted English teaching in four vocational colleges in Jinan, which helps the author put forward some suggestions and countermeasures to optimize vocational multimedia English teaching. It is hoped that this thesis may provide some theoretical and methodological help to multimedia English teaching, which can make teachers have a right attitude towards the application of multimedia in English teaching and make full use of multimedia to improve teaching efficiency.
