People-oriented Design: For Elite, Public Or Vulnerable Group?

The "people-oriented" design idea becomes the general knowledge which nearly each designer must grasp. The designer finds the problems by users'eyes, and solves the problems from their standpoint, so as to achieve the design based on people's concern. But the category of "human" is so broad, it can be divided into different groups from different angles, just so-called "like attracts like". When the decision-making or the design simultaneously involves the community benefit in every way, and the contradictory of the community benefit is very difficult to solve, the design principle of being "humanist" appears to be very incapable. In many situations, it is just the communities'difference of opinion in the surface, but in fact it can be considered as the contradictory difference of different social strata. This article attempts to find out several benefit communities which are meaningful and may have contradictory conflicts, and discuss the designs are actually for which community.The paper will give a detailed analysis of the respective concepts and characteristics of different social strata, like the elite, the public as well as the vulnerable groups, and discover the deep contradictories between these three strata. It will discuss advantages and disadvantages of the design which stems from the thought of the elite, the public or the vulnerable groups, and analyze the contradiction among three communities. Further, the thesis will present that because the resources of the entire society are limited, there are interests contradictions among the elite, the public as well as the vulnerable groups about how to balance their mutual rights, and the key point is to solve the problem of balancing their the rights and interests.The community and the essence of people who consist of the community are related to some foundational ethical law theory thoughts, such as the human rights, the democracy and equality. In view of the thought of the human rights, democracy and equality, it is proposed that the design should take human rights as a premise so as to achieve the principle of the democratic equality. Besides the much perfect principle of design, it needs to stipulate concrete ways explicitly to solve the contradictories. The division of social strata originates from the uneven deployment of resources, so it is most necessary to consider the redeployment of social resources in order to deal with conflicts of interest among the elite, the public and the vulnerable groups and it is better to find out many other ways of solving the contradictories of these communities.The elite community pays too much attention to their possessive resources, which undoubtedly will lead to the occupation of other communities'existing space, so it is necessary to restrain the excessive demand. Positively guiding the development of the elite community to a healthy life-style will alleviate the contradictories among the social strata. When the objective factor cannot solve the contradictory problem, then subjective feeling of happiness may open a new door for us. The material society cannot fill in the cavity in people's innermost heart, and the satisfaction of human spirits is most needed to show the loving care. The contradiction does not lie in your vulnerable concern about the successes and failure you have achieved, but the reasonable explanation of problems, how to be content, and how to solve the contradiction to the greatest degree through many objective and subjective ways so that you can be happy in your whole life.
