Multi-dimentional Study On The Structure Of "爱 X 不 X"

Abstract:The pattern"爱X不X"is of frequent use in modern Chinese. This thesis provides a comprehensive research on the pattern"爱X不X"in terms of syntactic sentence structure, semantics , pragmatics and the development that lasts.The thesis is composed of 8 chapters.Introduction: Chapter One is the preface.It begins with the research object and the research contents , continues with explaining the theory based on and the train of thought. At last,it has the introduction of relevant issues and the corpus .Chapter One is meaningful to the further analysis and explanation of the pattern.Chapter Two is a detailed introduction of current research on"爱X不X"is given here.The previous research fruits are confirmed .Chapter Three deals with the nature of"X". One hand,"X"can be Monosyllable,bisyllable even polysyllable;on the other hand,"X"can be verbs ,Adjectives and verb phrases. In addition,The Chapter collects the statistics about the applied frequency of different"X"to illuminate the charaters of"X".Finally,the thesis tries to make an explanation of the characters above.Chapter Four desls with the semantic relation of the"爱X不X"structure.From its interior circumstances,coexisting relation and alternative relation are concealed in it.As for the same form with different meanings,we can make out them by means of adding some correlatives.Chapter Five analyses syntax function of"爱X不X"structure.When the structure with coexisting relation makes sentence composition,it can act as subject, predicate, attribute, adverbial, object. In addition,the"ai X bu X"structure can also make the clauses and the sentences alone. Among these sentence composition,the main function is to act as predicate.Mostly the stucture with alternative relation can act as predicate and make the sentence alone .Only one example which the stucture with alternative relation act as attribute is found in the paper corpus.Chapter Six discusses pragmatic value of the pattern. This strcture can mean the description of some state, pure preference relation and different subjective awareness.It is mostly oral.From expression effect,it can show concise ,refined and picturesque.Chapter Seven make a rough description of the development of"爱X不X"stucture from the diachronic aspects.The structure came in Qing Dynasty.Until now,it has developed greatly: the frequency increase sharply; more syntax functions are applied;the variable"X"get more rich and the stucture mood and its textual function also have changed.Chapter Eight is the conclusions of the thesis.
