A Study On The Structure Of "一A一B"

The structure "一A一B" is often used in modern Chinese because this simple structure can express different meanings.Based on the previous studies by others,the author of this thesis has carefully examined the structure "一A一B" by means of description and explanation,analysis of form and meaning,and transformation.Analysis of its pragmatic function has been adapted in the research.Part One is a examination into the internal structure of "一A一B".The author discussed the nature and characteristics of A and B within the structure,and found that the A or B can separately be a monosyllabic morpheme or word,or A and B can be a compound disyllabic word as well.Part Two is the syntactic and semantic discussions on the structure of "一A一B".The author argued that the syntactic structures of "一A一B" can be subgrouped into the Parallel Structure,the Subject-Predicate Structure,and the structure of constrictive complex sentence.Quantitative analysis of the syntax function of "一A一B" has been done in order to look for its syntax character.To those "一A一B" which act as clauses in the text,we have studied the cohesive device between them and their former and following sentences.Part Three is a statistic analysis on the diachronic development of the structure "一A一B" in history.The author argued that the structure "一A一B" was used most frequently in the following four periods:the period of Chunqiu(春秋) and Zhangguo(战国),the Tang(唐) Dynasty, the period of the Ming(明) and Qing(清) dynasties,and at present.
