Buddhist education is an activity that the Buddhist educators influence Buddhists'bodies and minds (especially Buddhist monks) with the purpose, plan, and organization and make them become Buddhism needing talents. It is a great significance for Buddhism spread and development. At the beginning of 20th century, the behaviors of Buddhist education mainly in Buddhist temples in the past had changed into a new form—school education in China. The Buddhist school education of China has developed to present and obviously become one main form of the Sangha's education.In modern China, the government implements completely the policy of free religious belief and great supports the Buddhists building Buddhist schools and cultivating Buddhist talents, especially Yunnan Buddhists, the Theravada Buddhist temples short of Sangha and as the result, foreign monks entry and act as the abbots; the Tibetan monks traditionally went to study Buddhism in Tibet, Sichuan, and other areas; the Mahayana Buddhists have devoted to rebuild temples in the past 30 years and now the monk education is relatively backward. The whole of Yunnan Buddhists are facing the realistic problem of lacking Buddhist talents and themselves having inability to educate Buddhist talents. Establishing Buddhist schools under the supports of government is required by the circumstances and the experiences have proven that it is effective. The work of Yunnan monk education of school started in 1990s and explored and got progress, and found a special way, and at the same time, it met many difficulties and problems.The research uses Yunnan Buddhist College as one research by collecting broad materials, doing fieldwork, and referencing other researches, and then reviews and concludes the special experiences of Yunnan Buddhist school education, and then summarizes and promotes the theory of it. The paper reviews the history of Yunnan Buddhist school education development and describes in detail on its development and current situations, and also analyzes the development power. The paper concludes the characteristics of Yunnan Buddhist school education by comparing and contrasting the traditional form of temple education and the Buddhist school education in the prosperous coastal regions of China. The paper also rethinks profoundly the many years education of Yunnan Buddhist College and rationally thinks how to run well Yunnan Buddhist schools, and provides the references for the realistic aspect of government decision-making and the theory building, especially through exploring the theory basis of Yunnan Buddhist schools it could guide the practices of Buddhist education, carry out completely the guidelines for education and the religious policy of the Party's and China, and it is great significance for supporting and helping the religious groups run well their religious schools.
