With continuous economic development and growing national strength, China is rising as a big country and plays an increasingly important role in the world's stage. Chinese has also become one of the most important and popular languages in the world. This study aims at presenting an assessment to the current elementary spoken textbook based on the comprehensive reviewing of available teaching materials. And bring up proposals and ideas in future teaching materials compilation. Therefore, our study should respect assessment theory of teaching materials, compilation theory of teaching materials and teaching practice of spoken Chinese during the research process of current teaching materials, and to discuss the possibility to compile a practical teaching material with theoretical knowledge. In this paper, we analyze"Short-term Spoken Chinese"(Beginners, two volumes) in systematic from five aspects, those are writing example, text selection, words and expressions comment, language points explanation and exercises design; to discuss the principle and method in compilation of short-term elementary Chinese spoken textbook which is in favor of teaching. On this basis, this study makes some helpful proposals in compilation of elementary Chinese spoken textbook.
