Liang Kai's painting is very unique on the Southern Song' painting domain, which is also rare in the whole previous history of Song. It could be said that he was the most personality and rich creative painter of the Southern Song Dynasty and even in ancient China. As an important person in the history of Chinese painting, he was bold in making innovations, developing another way to obtain fruitful research results, which had a great impact on future generations. Yu Peng-qing, painter of the Ming Dynasty, made the following comment to Liang Kai in Note to topic and postcript of the painting and calligraphy:"The technique of painting began to change from Liang Kai, New and inspired painting were a great gratification to appreciator. The ancient painters were experts, everywhere in his work was full of clouds and spring beauty "; Zhang Suo-Wang, painter of the Ming Dynasty, also acclaimed Liang Kai that:"painting freely, which was similar with grass-hand writing, full of verve and out of painting. "A number of issues of Liang Kai are studied in this paper,wicth including six parts:The first part is to analyze the historical and cultural background of Liang Kai era,illuminate his painting style from the sides on politics, culture, economy and painting.The second part is to summarize the recorded paintings of Liang Kai. We could find that his works involved in various subjects, even not include the woks unrecorded. The third part is to collect and compile various types of Liang Kai's works, mainly from the appreciations of the contents and artistic style, classifies and studies his famous works as comprehensively and completely as possible.The fourth part is to deal with some of the specific style of Liang Kai's painting techniques, focusing on his painting technique of "cut-pen"and "splash-ink". Part five is to make a detailed analysis of painting styles of Liang Kai to explore the Zen thought impacting on Liang Kai's painting art, and Zen meaning embodied in his works.Part six totally illustrated the status of Liang Kai in the history of painting and its impact on future generations and Japan.Liang kai inherited forward the good traditions of Sui, Tang,wu dai and northern Sung Dynasties, and opened up a new style of scholar painting. Meanwhile, we could find his paintings was not locked by the academy style, and not such freely as the scholar style. His painting style was another form which was between the academy style and the scholar style, such immited new fashion to free-hand person paintings. His woks were simplifying but unconstrained, to pursue artistic conception outside the physical image. his woks, as the ancient art treasures, is worth learning and use for reference, and has an important guiding significance and enlightenment values on Chinese free-hand paintings in the contemporary era.
