This thesis focus on analyzing the painting language of Hockney’s series of "A Big Splash" during 1964 to 1978. This series of Hockney have an obvious personal style. These paintings are painted by waterborne paints. They have strong sense of composition and bright colors. The plustic of water and splash were variety, what seem to be experimental overall.Every splash has unique shape. The density, movement and rhythm change variety, what contrast sharply with the calm water in the swimming pool. The stark contrast gives a very realistic experience for the paint. The expression of feeling is different from the traditional realistic paintings. And with the realistic factors, Hockney and his paintings unlike other pop artists and other art forms at the same time, that show strong personal style of modernity and realism.Historically, there were many artists done well in painting the spray, while Hockney was one of these outstanding ones. His sprays conform to his own artistic temperament, express fully his individual feelings and ideas. In his painting language, we can not only feel the time goes by, but also feel the current impact. In just a few seconds, it impacts our feeling and washing our sense.
