Title: Industrial Structure of America: A Study of the New Economy The U.S. New Economy is the Period, from March 1991 to May 2000. that records as the longest and higher economic development. Characterized with the higher economy growth rate, low inflation rate, and low unemployment rate. there are some changes in industrial structure in the New Economy, one of which is that the information industry is becoming the leading industry of the U.S. economy. Drew on the study of relative researches on the industrial evolution theory and on the information industry, this paper propounds a question in analyzing the industrial structure in U.S. New Economy period, that is how the information industry changes the industrial structure. Based on comparing the weight of GDP and employment of the three major industries. of the major industries in the goods-producing sector and the service-producing sector. and of the information industry in the New Economy, this paper analyzes the feature of structure evolution among the three major industries and among the industries of the non-farm sector. This paper holds the view that the information industry is becoming a leading industry in U.S. economy. The infotmation industry is a main factor of the structurial changes among the three major industries, which characterized with the weight of GDP in the goods-producing sector raises while that of the employment drops rapidly, and with the weight of employment in the service-producing sector raises while that of the GDP does not change a lot. Attributed to the rapid development both of the GDP and the employment in the information industry, the U.S. New Economy has a high GDP (憆owth rate. a low inflation rate, and a low unemployment rate at the same time. The innovation lies in the analysis of the U.S. New Economy with an aspect of industrial structure. Meanwhile, this is an in-depth and pioneer research on how the information industrial influences the industrial structure evolution in the U.S. New Economy For this reason, this paper has its theoretical and applied value to the theory of industry.
