The article set the farmland in a county as the besic evaluation unit, discusses the possibility of farmland-grading and ranking on the basis of GIS software according to the ordinated by the Bureau of National land resources. The software is developed in the language of Visual Basic based on the the MapInfo system software developed by American MapInfo corp. to achieve the goal of automatic farmland-grading and ranking and provide decision foundation for farmland reasonable utinization and protection. The thesis can be divided into six sections. 1 .foreword. in the part of foreword, the thesis discusses the importance of the research of farmland-grading and ranking, the establishment of farmland-grading and ranking information system and the realization of automatic farmland-grading. 2.chapter 1. In this chapter, the research background and literature summarization are related, including the concept, characteristic of farm land, the function, the histoiy and present condition of the farmland-grading and ranking research. 3. Chapter 2 mainly focus on the technology of geography information system which is the theoritic and technologic basis of the farmland-grading and ranking research. The above two sections lay a solid foundation for the further research of system construction of the research supported by GIS. 4.Chapter 3 relates the necessity and possibility of the farmland-grading and ranking research , puts forwards the methods of the farmland-grading and ranking research supported by GIS, and constructed the information system, including the principle of system construction, the selection of soft and hardware, technology route and function interface of the system. 5.Chapter 4 set Pizhou county as an example to carry out the empirical research. The system can provide the function of database construction, farmland-grading unit determination, factor selection and evaluation, factor importance extent calculation, grading index calculation and result production, exhibition, output and updating. In the section of conclusion and suggestion, the thesis summarizes the experiences in the construction of farmland-grading information system, and puts forwards some suggestions for further research.
