Manufacturing Excellence: Integrating JIT, TQM And Total Involvement

Based on the case study of the manufacturing development process of Philips DAP Zhuhai, the history, meanings and application of manufacturing excellence are discussed and analyzed in this thesis which includes Case Description and Case Analysis.In the Description of Case, relevant information of Philips DAP Zhuhai as an International Production Center, and its milestones are given. The implementation process of PITSTOP/SPRINT, PQA-90 etc. are presented with influential events stated. As the mass foundation of manufacturing, the Mini Company scheme and its growth are expounded in detail and the shop floor management is introduced while its manufacturing level benchmarked.The Case Analysis starts with the summing-up of manufacturing excellence history, followed by defining the manufacturing excellence. It is agreed that manufacturing excellence is an integral combination of JIT, TQM and total involvement. The TQM, Mini Company scheme as the main of total involvement in Philips DAP Zhuhai, and the JIT programme-PITSTOP/SPRINT are analyzed. Finally, the weaknesses of manufacturing excellence applied in Philips DAP Zhuhai are discussed on strategic point of view with the prospect of manufacturing excellence presented. It is concluded that in order to achieve the ultimate goal of manufacturing excellence, Philips DAP Zhuhai shall be changed as a learning organization by strategic synergy, and keep systematic, balanced improvement for building up an organic structure from the chaos.
