The Development Of Small Towns In The Process Of Urbanization In Sichuan Province

Urbanization is the inevitable result of economic development, and the economic development is the base of urbanization, but at the same time the urbanization will lead down the economic development. They will complement together and restrict each other. At present the lower rate of urbanization than the one of economic development has arose a series of profound problems. Speeding up the urbanization process has become a strategic task to our governments at present even a long time in future.In this thesis I will point out that we should choose different ways to urbanize in our country on the base of predecessor's research results on urbanization, comparing and analyses the models of China and foreign countries even the discussions on our country's urbanization. On this base, I look back the researches on small towns to clarify that developing the small towns and cities is one of the best ways to promote urbanization; it has an important role in the process of urbanizations in China. In Chapter III of this thesis I analyze Sichuan's urbanization historic experiences, present conditions and existing problems and apply that the ways of Sichuan's urbanization developing should suit measures to local conditions and area distributions, the large, medium, small cities and towns should develop simultaneously, and put forward overall and net methods to promote urbanization level by level. So I divide Sichuan into six economic areas; further point out Sichuan's urbanization should advance area distribution development strategy. In the process of Sichuan's urbanization, the small towns play an even more important role. I draw this conclusion according to the mainly analyze the necessaries and possibilities on making full use of small towns to promote Sichuan's urbanization. Further more I put forward the important instructions and roles on promoting Sichuan's urbanization. On these bases, I arise the policy measures to speed up Sichuan's urbanization following the analyses of Sichuan's local towns and cities developing conditions such as present conditions, problems, roles, restricted factors. The main purpose of this thesis is to expect the small towns to act more active rolesin Sichuan's urbanization.
