Study Of The Development Of Inland Waterway Transport In Western China

Inland waterway transport is of momentous significance to enforcement the Western Development, economy development along the river and accomplishment the strategic shift of national economy from the eastern areas to the western areas in our country. Although it achieves tangible results, the backwardness of inland waterway transport in western China has not changed yet, which is out of keeping with the regional economy development and building the integrated transport system. Inland waterway transport is still the weakest link of the integrated transport system in western China. Therefore, it is very important to study the development of inland waterway transport to both transport regulation and economy development in western China.This thesis sets five parts to discuss the development of inland waterway transport in western China, hi the first place, it summarizes the current situation of economy and transport in western areas .Secondly, this paper elaborates the present condition of inland waterway transport of main rivers in western China, including the state of channel, port and ship. The main problems of inland waterway transport are also pointed out in this part. Then it objectively discusses the unfavorable factors of western areas facing up to the Western Development after analyzing opportunities and challenges, which China's access to WTO and the Tenth Five-Year plan brings about .Furthermore, on the basis of persisting in the principle of development of inland waterway transport, this paper forecasts the trends of development of inland waterway transport including the amount of passenger and freight transport in 2010 and the type of riverboat in western areas. Finally, this thesis puts forward some practical suggestions on development of inland waterway transport, which contains how to strengthen water resources comprehensive utilization, how to make plans for inland river channel and how to speed up both enforcement the standardization of ships and ports construction. This paper also indicates that the long-term target for adjustment productive forces of inland waterway transport is not only to maintain investment for a long period, but also to use advanced equipment and technique to raise working efficiency of inland waterway transport. Moreover, it is still in need of reform of the current management system, adjustment transport structure and tightening up macro-control to increase the transport capacity and economic efficiency and boom the inland waterway transport in western China.
