The article, by reviewing the relations between the U.S and China during the past thirty years (1972-2002), expounds that the independent and peaceful diplomatic policy of China was enriched and developed by China's three generation leading collective in different historical period. Meanwhile, some thinkings coming from above are elaborated. In the 70's of the 20th century, the relations between the U.S and China was improved positively and the national security and interest were safeguared, which were attributed to China's first generation leading collective who broke the limitations of ideology and social institution. In the 80's, the second generation leading collective emphasized "peace and development" and raised "nonaligned policy". The domestic economic construction was promoted by developing the omnidirectional diplomatic relations. From the beginning of the late 80's, the frictions and conflicts, which appeared in the relations between the U.S and China were handled calmly by China's third generation leading collective. They underlined the world variety and maintained the democratization of the international society. The guiding principle of developing the relations between the U.S and China was posed and the relations between the U.S and China reached a new strategic high. In the coming relations between the two countries China will continue to insist on the basic principles, independence and supreme national interests. At the same time, China will set up a good international image and enhance his initiative to uphold the national interests very much by strengthening the contact of the two countries, paying attention to the "soft power" and raising the transparency of the policies.
