The long- and medium-term growth and the competitive edge of an enterprise rely on its competitiveness. In China, after more than 20 years' reform and opening up to outside world, the country's market economy is becoming more and more active, and Chinese enterprise's competitiveness has been continuously enhanced. With China's entry into the WTO, Chinese enterprises have to shift from the domestic niche--in which they ever faced considerably severe competition but at the same time they were protected by the nation's conservation policy--to the international arena where competition becomes more severe and violent. It is such a context that makes us give a closer and avider eye to the competitiveness of an enterprise. In China, the power industry is a traditional monopolistic industry. In the past 20 years, the power industry ever experienced fast growth, attributing heavily to the nation's protective policy and supports. But people also noticed that today's power industry has unveiled its poor efficiency and heavy waste of resources, owing to the lack of competition in the industry. In this context, the State Council issued the Reforming Scheme for the Electric Power System in February 2002, forcing the power industry to plunge into the sea of market economy. In fact, in today's tough market situation, the only way for a power enterprise's survival is to cultivate its competitive strength and upgrade its competitive edge; only by this can it stand the competitions from the domestic and international rivals and get its success. The basic step for the reform of electric power system is to open the power generation trade and to establish the power generation market, that is, our power enterprise should face and meet the market competition at the first step. This paper takes the independent power enterprise "Huaan Power Corporation" as its analysis objective, and by introducing the concept of competitiveness and analyzing the internal source and external climate of the Huaan Power, the paper offers detailed analysis and discuss concerning the cultivation, elevation and administration of Huaan Power's competitiveness based on the theory of competitiveness. The paper also proposes the implementation plan, in order to offer a strategic reference for Huaan Power's sustainable development.
