According to investigating the debate between Ralws and Nozic on social justice, the author points out the essence of the debate and discusses the revelation brought by the debate. The thesis consists of four parts besides the preface.Part One: "The justice inclining to the equality-the general survey of Rawls' theory of justice "mainly discusses why and how Rawls raised his theory, what its connotation is and how to realize it.Part Two: "The justice guarding the freedom-the general survey of Nozic's theory of justice "mainly discusses why Nozic raised his theory and what the theoretical background , foundation and connotation of the theory are.Part Three: "The debate on freedom and equality -the main problems involved in the debate ".(1)Historical justice and result justice: Nozic thinks that his theory is historical justice while Rawls' is justice of the result. The author thinks that Rawls' theory cares not only history but also result.(2)Patterning and unpatterning: Nozic thinks that Rawls' theory is patterning principle and the patterning means interrupting individual's freedom constantly. But Rawls thinks that it is not so in the countries ruled by law. (3) Social cooperation and distributing justice: Nozic thinks that social cooperation can not warrant Rawls' distributing justice. Nozic's theory is helpful to the economic development and Rawls" theory is good for social stability.(4)Personal natural assets and distributing justice: Rawls thinks individual has no right for his natural assets. Nozic thinks it' wrong. The author agrees neither of them.Part Four: "Freedom, equality and justice - the reflection about the debate "mainly discusses the essence of the debate and the revelation brought by it .(1) The essence of the debate: Justice is the economic equality on the ground of the equal freedom or absolutely personal freedom.(2)Ideal justice pattern: The author thinks Rawls' theory is just ideal justice pattern.(3)Earthly justice pattern: The author thinks that societies always develop from one extreme to the other. As far as freedom and equality are concerned, over-freedom is followed by over-equality and then over-freedom comes back. The reason why Nozic raised his theory is that he thinksover-equality has hindered the American economy. This tells us that we need not only ideal justice but also earthly justice. The earthly justice pattern provided by the thesis is to realize the dynamic equilibrium and static equilibrium of freedom and equality.?The revelation of the debate: It makes us reconsider equality and inequality.
