The first part of my thesis discusses the basic concepts and theories of project management; The second part expounds the application of project management in phases of design procurement construction and start-up; The third part is the essence of my paper.So-called management is that for a certain goal people do a series of works like making a decision, planning, organizing, coordinating, controlling etc to the target of management. In a broad sence project management includes plan, feasibility, inquiry, contract award, design, procurement, construction, start-up, test run and dient acceptance. In other words, it includes the management and control of schedule, cost, quality and data.In 1970's earned value concept(it is called "EVC" for short) was developed successfully by American. First EVC was used in the field of national defence and became successful, then it was applied in other Industrial fields as a method of project management. In 1980's the ma in engineering corporations in the world had applied EVC as a standard of project management and control. They done a lot of basic works and perfected EVC. Because EVC was applied successful ly to practice, so some owners of international engineering contractors first choose thosecompanies that they can use EVC to project management. The main goal and task of my practice are that by the method of EVC I am able to control the cost and schedule. The works that I did are making work breakdown structure, organizational breakdown structure, responsibility assignment, plan, estimate, progresss baseline, measure EVC, record actual cost for work performed, tracking. trending, projection and corrective action. Now I can get cost variance, scheduIe variance and schedule index etc.The method of using EVC to control cost and schedule is better than others. It can find problems promptly. Corrective action will be taken to corret them.
