China's entry into the WTO is of epoch-making significance. It will not only influence profoundly on Chinese economy, modes of thought and ways of living, but will also present a great challenge for the Chinese politics. Among all the coming impacts and changes, the revolution of the legal mentality is of the utmost importance. Because this requisite revolution for the entry of the WTO is much more demanded for the modernization of China's legal system. Throughout the modern history, all the major rejuvenation of legal systems was initiated by the change of legal mentalities. In today's China, though we have already made some reforms in the aspects of legal mentality and legal system, there is still much being incompatible to the WTO regulations. Now that China has entered the WTO, we Chinese should make a sober-minded analysis on the new situation and social relationships. First of all, we need to solve the problem in the modes of thought, strengthen the efforts of opening and reforming, and be more open to the western advanced legal mentality, legal culture and system, so as to develop our economy and modernize our rule of law.The thesis gives a brief account of the WTO's impact and influences on the traditional Chinese legal mentality. It anayzes the the basic trend of the revolution of Chinese legal mentality, expatiates the mental update and revolution of the legislation, adminislation and judicature. Based on all above, the thesis then makes a tentative approach on the nurturing of the modern legal mentality for our citizens, because the rule of law needs to be generally accepted and observed by all the citizens. It is the essence of the thesis that the thorough reformation of modern Chinese legal mentality is not only needed for the enterig of the WTO, but is also highly demanded for the modernization of the Chinese rule of law.
