Renewable Energy And Sustainable Development In Rural Area

Sustainable development is the only choice for human development and is also an overall strategy of China. The rural sustainable development is an important and impartible part of sustainable development in China. Energy is one of five key elements which human being depends on and is close related with sustainable development. To improve the energy structure, increase the energy efficiency and develop new and renewable energy are the basic energy strategy in China. Since the distribution of renewable energy resource matches to the extensive energy consumption in the rural area, it is worthwhile to have a study an relationship between renewable energy utilization and rural sustainable development, especially to assess the extend to which renewable energy impacts on the rural sustainable development.This paper analyses and assesses the relationship between renewable energy and rural sustainable development by means of Delphi, AHP and other methodologies.Based on the definitions and relationship between energy and sustainable development, the problems and possible solutions are discussed, the strategic direction for the renewable energy development is set forth. By analysis on the relevant statement of the renewable energy development, especially on the necessity and feasibility for the renewable energy development in the rural area, an assessment system and model to quantitively measure the contribution made by the renewable energy utilization in the sustainable development are established, and case studies are conducted by the help of the assessment system and model. Finally, the possible measures, solutions, and strategies to promote the renewable energy development in rural area are put forward based on the analyzing the problems and shortcomings in the reality.
