"The Project of government on line" has been started in china since January of 1999. Being the important part of the informationalization of government, e-government has been received the public's attention widely. This paper evaluates the actuality of function of Chinese government website and the characteristic of the different grades of Chinese cities through tracking the government websites of the nine cities in one month. And the evaluation provides the bases for analyzing the service function of e-government of Chinese cities. Then this paper discusses the several aspects that e-government affects the form and function of the city from the point of view of information geography. It is found that e-government has an active effect on the centralization and decentralization of city space, the organization of substance (or people) flow of city, the change of administrative fashion of city, and the foundation of multilateral communication (the informal communication) , and so on.
