| INCOME DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RURAL AND URBAN RESIDENDS UNDER ECONOMIC TRANSITIONThis paper looks at the determination and change of the income difference between rural and urban residents under economic transition. Dual economy is one of the most important topics in transition economics, which ascribes China's success to its serious dual economy. The kind of relationship between the departments is due to the government's strategy to catch up with the developed countries. However, under the China's unique transition path, this dual institution has been maintained. Thus, during recent 20 years, the dual structure has been increased rather than decreased, income difference between rural and urban residents is keeping diverging consequently, which can be a challenge to China's transition path. This paper discusses this issue from the viewpoint of rural-urban population migration and dual labor market. Chapter 1 is the preface. Chapter 2 analyses the income difference and dual structure between the two departments by some positive method. A polarization trend can be found in recent years, which is due to the China's choice of transition path. Chapter 3 mainly pays attention to the determination of rural-urban income difference under economic transition. Chapter 4 discusses why the rural-urban institutions can be maintained after the beginning of transition. A summary and policy strategies are provided in the last chapter of this paper. |
