A Study Of Information Sharing And Service System On Crop Germplasm Resources In China Based On Internet Technologies

Crop germplasm resources are the strategy resource contributing to national development and food security, support the livelihoods of every person on earth, thereby improving agricultural productivity and sustainability. The research on crop germplasm resources achieved remarkable accomplishments in China. Up to now, A total of 370, 000 accessions of crop germplasm resources among 180 crops has been stored in National Genebank for long term conservation. Furthermore, the National Database of Crop Germplasm Resources has been developed. And Chinese Crop Germplasm Resources Information Network is being widely used throughout the world. On the other hand, due to the lack of an effective distribution and information service system, it is very difficult for the users to obtain the useful genetic material and information directly or indirectly. Therefore limited the valid utilization of crop germplasm resources in China.The need for greater utilization of crop germplasm resources, both directly or indirectly, is urgent. In order to boost the distribution and utilization of crop germplasm resources, improve the efficiency of using information service, this study developed the Information Sharing and Service System on Crop Germplasm Resources in China Based on Internet Technologies by using the technologies of database, computer network, Object-Oriented. The research work got the financial support from China central government via the 10th Five-Year Plan national program. This system consists of two parts, one is germplasm query and order system, another is National Crop Medium-term Storage Management System. The establishment of this system fulfils the capabilities of crop germplasm query and order via Internet, the propagate of germplasm, distribution of germplasm as well as feedback information management.The principle of the practicality and versatility applies to this study thoroughly. Thereby the system not only conducts the crop germplasm information management and germplasm order via Internet, but also provides the further opportunities to share the data in other fields. The application of the system promotes information sharing, extends the range of germplasm information sharing, and improves the utilization efficiency of crop germplasm in China.
