Study On The Relationship Between International Trade And Environment

The relationship between international trade and environment has been raised first during the preparation of the UN Anthropology & Environment meeting in 1972.And from the late 1980s, environment begin to play an important role in the whole international trade system.Meanwhile their relationship is much closer than before.International trade and environment are supplement each other and contrary to each other.Conflicts between them become the focus.First of all,environment may have far-reaching effect on the means and structure of international trade. It provides new opportunities and challenges and leads it towards new tendency and characteristics.On the other hand, international trade usually is not the leading cause that due to environment problems. But it will affect the pattern of commodity prices, income, production,consumption and many other aspects in the both sides of a transaction.Oweing to this kind of effect, it may produce positive or negative effect on environment in both direct and indirect way. The complicated relationship between international trade and environment sharpened and it is displayed by the relationship between environment protection and free trade in reality. Under this background,environment control comes into being. Conflicts among trading countries are induced by the fact that their policies concerning environment in different countries are quite different and they are characterised by "self-regard". And it goes against environment protection. The international communication on this question become extremely important.International organizations like WTO should especially exert their function. With the entrance to WTO and world trade globalization, in order to maintain our trade interests and promote economic growth, we have to be aware of the close relationship between environment and international trade. And we need stipulate corresponding strategies and take measures properly to deal with this question.
