We began with the study of society reliability and credit in traditional Chinese society. First, we analyzed its view of credit and ethics, where credit was considered to be essential and critical both for people's social success and for enterprises' prosperity. Credit was also one of the primary principles in governing the country. Then we studied the ideas of reliability and credit in Western history. From Marx's dialectic point of view, we analyzed the differences in Chinese and Western views of credit and ethics. Theoretically, they have different emphases; they have dissimilar opinions of the relationship between integrity and benefit and dissimilar ways of operation and ranges of operation.Second, based on the actuality of Chinese society, we dissected the phenomenon and discussed the harm of credit-cracking in political, economical and cultural fields in our society. The reasons why credit-cracking exists in Chinese society were attributed to two aspects: accumulation through history and the bondage of a traditionally-planned economy system. The conventional view of credit and ethics can no longer meet the needs of a changing society; political, economical and legal systems are not perfectly established in Chinese society during transition phase; the limitations of market economy itself deviate from the nature of credit and morality.Last, according to the needs of present-day China, we set up boundaries for a modern society credit system based on its connotation, characteristics, internal mechanism, and nature. From our discussion, we concluded that the best path for establishing a Chinese society credit system lies in combining both ethical and legal methods, completing the creative conversion of a traditional Chinese society to a modem credit society, learning from the essence of western credit systems, establishing a consummate credit system, and actively increasing governmental credit. At the end of the article, we set forth the important theory of constructing a credit system in modern China and its practical signification.
