Phoenix is one model of Motorola mobile phone with metal housing, everyone in Motorola shows his high expectation to future market for this phone. But the scrap rate is very high at the beginning of mass production, it is far exceeded the scrap rate goal. So management decided to set up a team for scrap rate improvement to solve each problem which cause high scrap rate. Finally find four major rootcauses which cause high scrap rate through scrap rate breakdown and have detailed introduction to these four rootcauses. Has detail elaborated to the continuous quality improvement approach and application method which used in Motorola, famous Motorola 6 Sigma quality management philosophy as well. This make preparation for problem solving process which will introduce in the following chapter. The common tools for quality continuous improvement is the weapon for production quality control and problem solving, the tools are elaborated in the thesis. All the problem solving process follow DMAIC process of 6 Sigma with problem definition, problem measurement, problem analysis, problem improvement and problem control. Meanwhile many SPC knowledge are applied to analyze effectively and scientifically to reach the goal of scrap rate reduction and quality improvement finally. At last, ISO9000 quality system and Motorola system review knowledge are introduced to express the importance of completed quality system, also the total quality management approach are elaborated in the thesis, it is the guarantee of quality system execution successfully.All the problem solving process follow 6 Sigma DMAIC process, it is very meaningful to instruct our practical quality management work.
