An Analysis Of Urbanization In Sichuan

Urbanization is a historical process transferring from traditionally agricultural society to modern society and it is the unity of Population Urbanization and City Modernization. Urbanization is closely related to the social economic development of a country or a region. Economic development is the basis of urbanization, which is the result of economic development. On the other hand, urbanization will lead to economic development. They will complement together and restrict each other.Urbanization is important to stimulate domestic demand, to maintain economic development, to transfer the life styles and to improve the quality of life Chinese people. At present, the level of urbanization of China is much lower than that of economic development. However, compared to other provinces and cities, we can find the level of urbanization in Sichuan province is even lower. So speeding up the process of urbanization has become a strategic task for Sichuan governments from now on and even a long time in the future.On the basis of research work done on urbanization, this thesis thoroughly analyses the present conditions of urbanization and the relationship between urbanization and economic development in Sichuan province. Then the theses discusses the main progress and problems existed in the past urbanization policy-basically depending on small town built to push the urbanization process. Based on the analysis above, we can find that it is necessary to forward the urbanization process in Sichuan province and we should adjust measures to local conditions instead of the single. For example, in suitable areas developing large cities and megalopolis can push ahead with urbanization much better and sooner. According to geographical distributions, economic conditions and the level of urbanization of different areas, the thesis divides Sichuan into five economic zones: Chengdu Plain, South of Sichuan Area, Panzhihua Area, Northeast of Sichuan Area and three autonomous regions, then discusses the strategies of urbanization in these five areas. In the end, the thesis analyses some current policies that hampering the urbanization process from the institutional perspective and propose some practical suggestions.
