With the coming of foreign-owned banks aid the liberalizing of interest rate system, the competition which Chinese banks faced with will be a comprehensive and challenging engineering. Thus, how to design a structure of competition strategy in order to conduct banks' competency-fostering, keep them develop new function continually, get new core ability and improve competency now available become very important for banks. The relative practice and theory now available all have some disadvantages to a degree, so they can't come up with effective support to the banks' competing activities in different levels. Based on the view of resource-based theory, this thesis provides a theoretical renovation, and gives different competition strategy in particular level by merging all kinds of competition strategies newly.This thesis consists of four sections. The first section introduces the basic concept of strategy management, explains the character and pattern of strategy management in commercial banks, then analyses competition strategy in commercial banks in the view of theoretical foundation and its meaning. The second section analyses the theory and practice of competition strategy both in foreign and home commercial banks by comparison. This sectior lucubrates the relative theory of competition strategy and practice in commercial banks. In the third section, this thesis gives a pattern on competition strategy based or. competency-fostering. Firstly, this section discusses the disadvantages of the compe;ition strategy now available, then it provides a new theoretical structure for the analysis of the whole thesis on the base of the resource-based school's view. After this, it taks about the competency in banks in three levels based on the foundation. At last, t provide a pattern of competition strategy according to the level in which banks competes. In section four, the thesis provides the problem to be solved and the environmental strategies on how to optimize the pattern. The core and key abstract of this thesis is in section 3 and section 4.
