Since 1980's, to survive the outer environment of fierce competitiveness, western corporations, especially MNCs, have been making strategic adjustment for their competition with others, namely, from opposite-competitions to large-scale cooperative-competitions. As one of the main forms of cooperative-competitions, strategic alliance is regarded as the most remarkable organization innovation, and has became a forceful means to sharpen competitive edges of modern corporations.This paper, based on comprehensive study for the concepts and theories on strategic alliance strategy of MNCs, puts forward its conclusive and general standpoints and opinions, and links deferent theoretical points with the theory on power of corporations, so as to seek a common nature or definition for various forms of strategic alliances.Beginning with close analyses of the definitions, kinds, characteristic, ways and motives of strategic alliances of MNCs, this paper manages to inquire into the basic stages and problems in the processes of establishment and implementation of strategic alliances, such as establishment, management, development and effect assessment and so on. Finally, as for the urgency and importance for Chinese MNCs to participate in international cooperation and competition in way of strategic alliances strategy, several ideas and tactics are proposed in this paper.Meanwhile, this paper analyzes several inherent negative effects of thestrategic alliance of MNCs based on paying attention to the high ratio of the disintegrated strategic alliance. And some sides that the management of the strategy alliance should attach much importance to are also pointed out in this study.As a new way of international competition, strategic alliances of MNCs have developed into several kinds which can be characterized by 5 ones, namely, ensuring of market share, pursuing of capital, evading of trade conflict, learning of advanced technology and managerial experience as well as relocating of series production organization forms, due to deferent strategic goals and the variety of partnership. International strategic alliances of MNCs, which are motivated by the synthesizing, fusing, and inter-complementing of technologies, are not only the inherent demand for the R&D of Hi-Tech, but also a effective shortcut to break through trade barriers.Strategic alliance of MNCs is a kind of international cooperation form different from equity-based joint venture.. Its aim is to seek the efficiency of resource allocation and the global market share. For MNCs, It is not only a significant strategy to acquire competitive advantages and achieve fast development, but also a widely employed way of entering into developing international market. Chinese corporations should pay more attention to the new trend of MNCs, change little by little the specific form of cooperation with them, and take effective measure to improve our ability to cooperate better with them. Furthermore, Chinese corporations should set up contract-based-strategic alliances on equal basis with those MNCs, in order to enhance our core competitiveness and the abilities of internationalized management.
