Ever since the concept was put forward in 1980's, strategic alliance is developing rapidly as a new organizational form. Nowadays, forming strategic alliance has become one of the widely used competition strategic which is taken by western enterprises. It is very important for Chinese enterprises to realize and utilize this strategic so as to strengthen its own competitiveness. Aiming at this problem, this paper states the basic theory of strategic alliance, analyze it's foundation process and give some suggestions on how to carry out this strategic considering the status of forming strategic alliance between Chinese and western enterprises.The paper consists of 4 chapters:Chapter 1 discusses the basic definition and classification of strategic alliance, then review the current five theoretical explanation of strategic alliance, such as the theory of transaction cost, the theory of value chain and etc..Chapter 2 analyzes the external environment and internal motivation of forming a strategic alliance.Chapter 3 studies how to build strategic alliance. This paper makes further research on the selection between M&A and strategic alliance, the selection of alliance partner and the selection of alliance structure.Chapter 4 states the status of cooperation between Chinese and western enterprises and puts forward some suggestion on the development of strategic alliance in China.
