Environment of ideological and political education (EIPE) is an important and the most active factor in theoretical and political education. Its change can result in changes of other factors such as the contents and methodologies of education. It can be divided into social, family and school/work environment, among which social environment plays a crucial role in both the development of an individual's quality and the activities of EIPE. Dynamic development features EIPE so that it presents different characteristics at different stage. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Party Central Committee, our government adopted the reform and opening up policy, the implementation of which gave rise to many changes. And at the same time, the economic globalization was expanding and ways of communication were changing. All these changes have deeply affected the ideas and consciousness of our people and the ideological and political education in our country. On the basis of grasping a lot of information and data, this text focuses on the period since after the Chinese reform and the social environment, which is rather crucial to the development of an individual's ideological and political quality and EIPE. The current social environment closely related with EIPE can be divided into domestic environment and international one. The domestic environment has witnessed diversification of economical elements, social organizations, employment, distribution and lifestyle whereas international environment has experienced changes in information dissemination resulting from technological revolution, economic globalization, adjustment of world structure and the socialist campaign at its low tide. All these changes have imposed much influence on people who love to seek truth and fresh things, oppose formalism and conformism, make comparison and judgement independently, and desire seasonable and varied ideological exchange together with a disobedient psychology. Besides, the changes have brought about great challenges to ideological and political education in aspects of the contents and methodology of education and the quality of the teaching staff. The author analyzes the above problems and puts forward preliminary countermeasures according to the changes of social environment in the new period to improve the contents and methodology and the construction of teaching forces. In addition, the author proposes measures to enhance the effects of ideological and political education.
