After controlling political power of Taiwan fifty-five years, the Chinese Kuomintang Party (KMT) was defeated by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) which represented the interests of Taiwanese people in the 2000 "presidential election". Because of the first transition of governing parties, the Taiwan's political situation was drastically changed. As the new "president", Chen Shui-bian refused the "One-China Principle". Although the cross-strait relations reached an impasse, Chen Shui-bian won re-election in the 2004 "presidential election". The article analyses the result of 2000 and 2004 "presidential election" by means of quantitative approach and tries to interpret the reasons of DPP's success from the four perspectives which are transition of party, image of party and strategy of election, the utilization of administrative resources and sudden accidents. The article also explains the "Two Camps,Four Parties" of Taiwan's political situation will evolve to the two-party system, DPP and KMT will be the dominant political parties. As far as "Pan-Blue" camp is concerned, the People First Party and KMT must merge into one political party and it is the best way to overcome the difficulties. In addition, the long-ruling DPP will exert the profound and lasting influence in the cross-strait relations.
