The new American presidential election came to an end on November 8,2016.The result was Donald Trump,as the Republican candidate, defeated the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, and was elected the 45 th president in American history. The presidential election in 2016 is the most dramatic and surprising onein recent decades. The whole process of this election includes the fierce primary election,a close competition between two candidates, and an “unexpected” result. In general, the electoral procedures comply with the rules and regulations and the Constitution, and the election process is basically transparent. In this election, the voters' enthusiasm of political participation is high, showing that a large number of voters involve it with various participation forms and the supporters of two candidates are divided into two camps. In the United States, the main body of political participation can be divided into social elite and social public who have their own interests, demands, manners of participation andpatterns of behavior. In this election, the differences among voters reveal the interests' conflict between the elite and the public, especially the problems of the middle class. At the same time, the populist trend of thought appears in the candidates' campaign ways and the manners that part of the voters express their will.In this election, the real contradiction that the political participation reflects is the interests' embodimentof all walks of life.Especially the middle class,it has suffered a setback for a very long time so that they are looking forward to some changes. In recent years, the social gap between the rich and the poor has become a major problem of governance. With the deep development of globalization, the domestic middle class faces the problem of low income and a huge pressure of unemployment, leading to the increasingly serious problem of American society unfair. The problem of the middle class in the United States is a long-term.The Tea Party movement in early days is a typical struggle of middle-class,which has a certain influenceon the current political problem, reflecting the continuity in political development. After coming into power,Trump makes a positive response to his promises in election, and he also carries out a series of policies to make his reform. However,it is hard to say that Trump's “prescription”is effective or not in the face of the problems about American social differentiation and populism. After all, either from the view ofthe theory or the practice,Trump's supporters are just a part of voters. It is more important to achieve a balance of interests in the diversified society and the political system of separation of the three powers.Otherwise, the implementation of the policy will encounter obstacles and it will be possible to lead to some new conflicts. And it is indeed a long-term goal to balance the distribution of benefits, digest and absorb the "by-product" brought by the globalization. There are still many problems to be solved.
