Economic globalization and regional economic integration reinforce urban competition.The advancement of traffic and communication shortens time-distance between cities, whichoffers an opportunity for coordinated development of neighboring cities. The corridor of westLiaoning is an integrative region, which has better development conditions and potential. Thecorridor is a part of economic circle around Bohai sea that is influenced by Shenyangeconomic zone and Beijing-tianjin economic zone. In order to develop the laggard regions quickly in Liaoning province and to promotesustainable development of the corridor it is very important for scholars to study coordinateddevelopment of cities in the corridor of west Liaoning province. The thesis studies coordinated development of cities (Jinzhou, Huludao, Linghai andXingcheng) in the corridor of west Liaoning. The thesis consists of three parts: introduction,main body and appendix. The introduction summarizes study actualities of scholars aboutcoordinated development of cities and regions. The main body consists of seven chapters: Chapter one puts forward coordinated development of cities and analyses the conceptionof coordinated development and related conceptions. And it illuminates the theories ofcoordinated development. Chapter two discusses actualities of cities in the corridor that includes natural and humanstate and gives an account of main cities' development. Chapter three analyses many impediment factors, which relate to system, marketmechanism, industrial development, infrastructure building, urban development stratagem andplan. Chapter four studies necessity and feasibility of coordinated development of cities in thecorridor. It is necessary for cities in the corridor to develop with coordination in order toconform to regional economic integration, to carry out division and cooperation, to manageand develop the corridor together, to build urban belt and development axial belt in thecorridor. The feasibility includes advantages of the corridor, the stratagem of make NortheastChina thriving, the common infrastructure and the common history and culture. Chapter five puts forward principle and content of coordinated development anddiscusses driving mechanism. The principle includes implementing division and cooperation,sharing opportunities and benefit, giving efficiency priority and considering justice, persistingin integration and so on. The content of coordinated development includes economydevelopment, space structure, development scheduling of cities, building of infrastructure andenvironment. The driving force includes economic globalization, regional economicintegration, opening policy, the corridor effect, advancement of traffic and communication. Chapter six puts forward objectives, models and measures of coordinated development.The primary objectives include building urban-economy belt, development axial belt anddouble core of regional economic development. The coordinated models include the model ofpoint-axes coordination, the model of double-core coordination, the model of clusteringcoordination. The primary measures include innovation of system and organization,cooperation of industry and corporations development, macro-control of governments,constituting the plan and stratagem of coordinated development. Chapter seven is conclusion.
