A Strategy Study On Sustainable Development Of Goat-production By Planting Forages In Nantong Area

Agricultural sustainable development is the base of sustainable development of economics and society , while sustainable development of animal husbandry is the important part of agricultural sustainable development. Therefore, the sustaintable development of animal husbandry is the important content of agricultural sustainable development. It is to make such factors as resources, environment, population and technique in line with the coordination of development of animal husbandry based on the continous agriculture and our actual situation,seeking a possible way to meet the increasing demands of the animal productions.As a coastal and open area ,Nantong has farming area of the three-fourths on the average domesticly .Therefore, it has been the necessary choice to adjust the agricultiral structure, increase the planting areas of fodder crops and pasture and develop such crop-saving and grassing-eating domestic animals represented mainly by catties and goats .In comparision with cattle raising ,goat raising is welcomed by peasants because of its small investment, small risk ,short period, quick effection, flexible scale and easy development.In Nantong city, the hypsography is even, the soil is rich and wet, the climate is warm and feasible, the degree of agricultural intensivism is high, the crop straw and crude pasture is rich. So, Nantong city has the advantage in developing goat. The farmers have the tradition of goat raising, Nantong city is famous in meat goat raising, mutton processing, sales and so on. But in Nantong city, the scale of goat-raising is small. Every farmer raise two or three goats, shear grass to feed goat in spare time and give no supplementary feed. So goats' nutrition is not very good and goats' development speech is slow. In raising and management, hygiene condition is poor, the dead rate of lamb is high, ileness prevention and treatment is not paid attention to. Goat' s bodyweight is low and meat output is low. Therefore, the economic benefit of farmers' goat-raising is very low.With the adjust of agricultural structure, Nantong city attaches more and moreimportance to goat-raising. Goat producing tend to moderate size and specialization. The developing direction of meat goats production is introducing goats to develop mating. So. government, scientific research institution and farmers must work together and take series of measures such as enhancing the improvement of breed, providing enough grass and feed for goat, spreading new technique of goat raising, developing pasture process and so on to ensure the sustainable development of goat raising, promoting the effect increase of agriculture and farmers' income increase.
