The labor theory of value is not only the basic of Marxism Economy, but also the mostimportant basic of the whole theories of Marxism. Now there is an ardent discussion about thelabor theory of value in academia. In this article, I will prove that this theory of Marx's has dualvalue meanings in both economics and philosophy, through analyzing its history and criticalcharacter. The labor theory of value contains Marx's unusual opinions about human being's value,so that it has a great social critical function. Marx's critical analysis on capitalism by the base oflabor theory of value, shows his full recognition for working and workers. So I think the labortheory of value is a humanism axiology. In this theory, Marx persists in looking motileliving-labor as the only source of value, so he point out that all value is created by the workers'working. This theory of value gives prominence to laborers' main-body function invalue-creating movement. And Marx also insists that value movement should not aim ultimatelyat the wealth, but the free development of every one. His purpose is to show that it is the baseand precondition of all societies' development to respect work and workers. During the processof up-building and consummating socialistic market economy, the labor theory of value is notout-dated, it can give us many positive and indispensable enlightenments on value.
