From 1920s, along with the spread of Marxism in the Arab region, the major communist parties in the Arab world were founded one by one under the aegis of the Comintern and the Communist Party of the Soviet Union(CPSU). With the exception of the Sudanese Communist Party, A11 1ooked to a world communist movement dominated by the CPSU for political and ideological leadership and material support. With this acceptance of the Soviet orthodoxy came an uncritical acceptance of the canons of Soviet Marxism-Leninism-Stalinism and a concomitant failure to formulate independent social analyses of the specific conditions within the Arab world. However, the communist movement duing this period still made a certain influence on the socio-political and economic development of the region, in particular, to promote the development of trade unions in the region. The 20th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union later, the Arab communist movement began to attune itself to local circumstances and sensitivities. Nevertheless, despite the attempts by Arab communist parties to adapt to local issues, the harsh treatment and oppression by regional governments eventually led to a virtually complete dependence on the CPSU. Despite this dependence, however, they had a profound impact upon the political discourses in the region and all domestic political entities were forced to address the issues raised by the communists. In 1990s, under the impact of disintegration of the Soviet Union and the drastic changes in Eastern Europe, except the degeneration of a small number of the Communist Party, most of the the Communist Party learned lessons from it, reflected profoundly, re-examined and modified the party's political and ideological program. Based on their own reality, they formulated policies and routes independently so that they were fresh with new vigor and vitality. Review of the history and development of the Arab communism, there have been important shortcomings in both the theory and the praxis of the Arab communist parties at a certain degree. The new century coming, there are more new situations and new problems on the international arena in the Arab world. A variety of contradictions still disputes together. The Arab communist movement is facing new challenges and opportunities. How to apply the basic principles of Marxism-Leninism in the Arab world to solve practical problems and how to make communism movement more deeply rooted among the Arab Communist Party is still a major issue. This paper is committed to study the history of the Arab Communist movement. It is divided into four parts. The first part explores the rise of the Arab communist movement from October Revolution to the outbreak of World War II. The second part summarizes the achievements and shortcomings made by Arab communist movement in the climax stage from World War II to the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the drastic changes in Eastern Europe.
