The famous American political scientist Huntington once declared,modernity breeds stability, but modernization is breeding the unrest."Since the late 70s of the 20th century, our country has been successfullymaintaining social stability without delaying social modernizationconstruction,which has solved the "Huntington problems."Under theguidance of dialectical and historical materialism, this paper takesadvantage of various types of literature to expand discussion from thefollowing four aspects.First, this paper provides an introduction of the research background,significance, research status and main contents.Second, this paper provides some theories of the socialmodernization and stability, like the theories put forward by the U.S.scholar Samuel P. Huntington, Black, Kuznets, and by Chinese scholarsLuo Rongqu and Tao Delin. Furthermore, it gives some examples of thedilemma that some countries ever confront.Third, this paper discusses the achievements made in both modernconstruction and social stability since adopting the policy of reform andopening-up.Fourth, this paper discusses the experience of maintaining socialstability while promoting socialist modernization, like upholding theleadership of the Communist Party of China, adhering to the guidance ofMarxism, attaching importance to improve people's livelihood, properhandling of ethnic relations.The practice of promoting social modernization while maintainingsocial stability in our country solved the "Huntington problems."The twocould be a reciprocal causation and promote each other.
