He is Chester. W .Nimitz, and is the first navy admiral in American history. This paper will discuss on his military thoughts, and detail its meaning, influence and status.This first part mainly introduces that the life of Nimitz and the ideological causes of Nimitz's military thought .First, according to chronological order, this part sums up the broad outlines of Nimitz's life, shows his performance on the stage of the United States history ,and reflects his character, habits detail in his life and work. So we can have an initial perceptual knowledge of Nimitz, and give him a more comprehensive understanding of the military and its significance lay the foundation. Second, part of this paper mainly focuses on the ideological causes of Nimitz's military thought. Judging from the experience of 2 world wars, a profound understanding of history and professional knowledge, and the father of Sea Power's long-term impact is the main reason for his military thought's formation. Meanwhile, from another angle, it is also makes clear, that the formation of military thinking is a response to objective reality and long-term rational thinking. So, it has the mighty vitality.The second part of this paper focuses on the contents of Nimitz's military thinking. Nimitz's military thought includes strategic thinking and tactical ideas. He much easily judged the situations as a whole. Early in his new position, he faced up to formidable Japanese navy, and laid down"Active defense and initiatively attack", He commanded U.S. navy at the battle of midway and won the war, he took advantage of strategic situation, and adjusted the strategic policy. He advocated "offensive defense"In1943, U.S navy started to have the Pacific strategic advantage over Japan, and Nimitz launched all-out offensive and implemented a strategic counterattack.He always went in for the naval theory and researched it and executed it, His tactical thought has summarized five aspects, (1) In order to make the control of air and sea, He advocated to carriers as the core.(2) He improved the formulation tactics and navy ability. (3) He researched for the "sea Wolf" submarine tactical ideas. (4) According to actual combated experience, he summarized from"by the island"to"island hopping".
