On Ethnic Issues In Cities During The Process Of Urbanization

Our country is in the period of social transformation, and the urbanization process is accelerating. In order to seek better employment opportunities and improve their own economic conditions, the flooding of ethnic minorities into cities makes the minority population in many cities increase greatly. When the ethnic minorities come to the cities, they simultaneously bring the traditional culture of their regions, special diet, and customs etc to the cities. They are engaged in business, service and many other industries in the cities, which promote the development of cities'diversifying economy, at the same time enrich the material and cultural life of all ethnic groups in cities, and infuse new blood to the development of cities'economy and culture. The increasing of the ethnic minorities in cities deepens the wide-range cultural exchange and contact between all people and nations, thereby promotes China's cities'national relationships from a broader scope and a deeper level. Meanwhile, the coming of the ethnic minorities can also bring some negative influences to our urban ethnic relations.The distribution of ethnic groups is characterized by chronic mixture living conditions. Since the establishment of new China, especially since the initiation of reform and opening-up, contemporary China enters a new stage with rapid development in urbanization. The ethnic composition, the population and the distribution of minority peoples in city also have undergone historical changes. With the increase in minority population and urban minority composition, and more and more close contact among these ethnic members in daily production and life, the economic disputes and the differences of customs and culture among different ethnic individuals may lead to trivial conflicts. If these conflicts can be settled down effectively in a short time, it will benefit the construction of the harmonious urban national relationship in the new period. On the contrary, the trivial conflicts will develop into severe clashes, which may cause bloodshed and casualty incidents and deteriorate the relationship, which turn against the construction of the harmonious urban national relationship and then further affect the equality, unity and mutual assistance among all ethnic groups in the country.A city is the center of economy, politics, and culture in a region. The whole national relationships in China are affected by the urban national relations in it. And the national problems associated with it are of not only characteristics of large chain reaction and fast reflection but also a strong sensitivity which could cause serious national disputes and bring strong impact to the construction of harmonious national relations. So, the urban national relations and the national problems associated with it are very important. It has been becoming one of most important common problems focused by our party and country and the people to discover carefully, study seriously, and resolve properly the urban national problems in the process of urbanization. The causes, characteristics and contents of the urban national problems should be analyzed properly and scientifically. It is helpful for our party and country to establish more effective policies about construction of the harmonious urban national relations in the process of urbanization, to resolve the disputes among the people of all national groups, to build more equal, united, mutual and harmonious national relations.This paper, through analyzing, the characteristics and types of urban minorities associated with it, and the contents, traits and cause of the urban national problems in the process, elaborates the necessity of construction of harmonious urban national relations in the process of urbanization. Through drawing experiences and lessons at home and abroad, the paper puts forward some constructive measures and thinking about the construction of the urban national relations in the new period of our country.
