The Research On The Leisure Lifestyle Of New Generation Migrant Workers

This research studies the new generation migrant workers from leisure lifestyle. The new generation migrant workers are defined as the young migrant workers who were born in 1980-1995(during the age period of 16-31 years old). Combined with the actual situation of new generation migrant workers in China, this paper analyzes the status of new generation migrant workers'way of leisure life, characteristics, and the reasons. In the survey,110 questionnaires were distributed,98 valid questionnaires were collected. Analysising of survey data, combined with case interviews and observations, this paper reached the following conclusions:First, the new generation migrant workers are lack of leisure time. During the working days,63.2% new generation of migrant workers have only 2-4 hours of leisure time, and 4-8 hours at weekend, most of them can only break one day on holidays; Some migrant workers often work irregularly, they can't enjoy weekends and holidays, it only at the Spring Festival that they can take a long vacation. This is mainly affected by the work systems of the new generation migrant workers.Second, friendship is the mian bond between new generation migrant workers and their leisure companions. Besides, industry margin relationship and geopolitical relations are one of bonds. In their leisure companions, friends are the most, followed by colleagues, townees, lovers, relatives, coupls, and children in the last. It shows that their ability to adapt to the city is enhancing better and better, and they have more and more social skills. However, there are also some gaps between new generation migrant workers and urban residents.Third, there are a few low-level activities in their leisure time. They often participate in the line, chatting, drinking, watching TV and sleeping. Other activities are lower level of participation. In terms of their activity types, social interaction and recreation straightly dominate. Internet has been widely spread around them.Fourth, the leisure idea of new generation migrant workers is increased, their satisfaction of leisure life is lower. Moreover, it proves that these migrant workers hold some modern attitudes towards leisure. They have realized the imporance and necessity of leisure life, and had a strong leisure demand and higher excpectations. To their disappointment, they are not satisfied with their leisure life. Many complex factors restrict their leisure life, so that it makes a great gap between their expectation and reality.Based on the above results, this study of the new generation migrant workers on how to improve the quality of leisure life made the following suggestions:First, increase their leisure time by reducing working hours, raising wage level, carrying out a reasonable wage system. Second, strengthen leisure facilities to rich leisure lifestyles by strengthening the government's leading role, playing the role of community organizations and employers'high emphasis. Third, promote leisure education for new generation migrant workers, and advocating scientific and civilized way of leisure life.
