Success Through Cooperation: A Study On Singapore's Anti-terrorism

Terrorism has become the focus of the whole world since September 11th,2001.There are a large number of Muslims and Islamic extremists in Southeast Asia. With the infiltration of Al-Qaeda, the terrorism of Southeast Asia developed gradually, and launched many attacks. In the severe counter-terrorism situation, the Southeast Asian countries realized that they must cooperate to fight against terrorism to safeguard regional stability and security. As one of the founding members of ASEAN, Singapore is actively promoting the Southeast Asian regional cooperation. Singapore is particularly vulnerable in the face of the terrorism so that Singapore actively participates in bilateral and multilateral levels of cooperation against terrorism, and plays an important role. This paper tries to study Singapore's policy of anti-terrorism and its role of the international cooperation on anti-terrorism from the perspective of Southeast Asian regional level and international level. The paper is divided into three parts. The first part is an introduction which describes the research objectives, methodology and significance. The second part is the main text which is divided into three chapters. The first chapter analyzes Singapore's anti-terrorism measures and policy. The second and third chapters analyze Singapore and the regional cooperation on anti-terrorism in Southeast Asia, and Singapore and the world-wide international cooperation on anti-terrorism. Finally, the paper concludes that Singapore set a model for contemporary world to deal with global issues including anti-terrorism.
