Research On The Status Of Information Contact And Urban Integration Of The Migrant Workers In Two Different Residential Models

The migrant workers can be divided into two groups by residential models, which are the migrant workers living in compact residential model and living in scattered residential model. People in the former group usually live together with the form of collective scale living while the latter group live in urban communities in the scattered living way, living together with urban residents. This study adopts the method of combining questionnaire survey and depth interview to carry out an investigation on the status of information contact and urban integration of the two migrant worker groups that live in two different residential models in Changsha City. It indicates that scattered model is more conducive to migrant workers to integrate into city.From the investigations of interpersonal interaction and the use of mass media to discuss the status of migrant workers'information contact, we found that the status of scattered-lived migrant workers is better than compact-lived migrant workers'. Concretely, migrant workers living in compact communities are inward tilted, while those who live scattered expand their interpersonal object to the outer group and interact with citizens frequently; Scattered-lived migrant workers use media frequently than compact-lived migrant workers and also the former can accept information spread by mass media with open mind, while the later keep contradictory mind towards mass media. Though they need it to provide behavior guidelines, they reject the influence from mass media full of citizens'value.From the two aspects of structural integration and psychological integration to discuss the status of migrant workers'urban integration, we found that the degree of scattered-lived migrant workers'integration is deeper than compact-lived migrant workers'. Concretely, the scale of reconstructing a social connection of scattered-lived migrant workers is larger than compact-lived migrant workers, their lifestyle shows a "trend of urbanization" feature, the identity of local is weakened, the identity of city inflow is enhanced, while the compact-lived migrant workers still feel a deep sense of identity to the native land and are difficult to identify with the city.Recur to SPSS software we found that there is positive correlation between status of migrant workers'information contact and urban integration. As a conclusion, this study points out that we have to improve condition of information contact of migrant workers to advance them integrating into city and construct the harmonious society in which all the people contribute and enjoy together.
