Some immaterial factors like idea and cognition, the important core of constructivism theory, have significant influence on international relations. One country's foreign policy depends on its cognition of another country. This thesis makes some research on India-Russia relation form the perspective of the theory. It is one of most important relations in international politics, which have especially profound impacts on Chinese foreign strategy and policy. Since deterioration of Sino-Soviet relations in the 1950s and 1960s, Soviet and India contained China, on the other hand, India-Russia relation got rapid development and signed Indo-Soviet Treaty of Peace in 1971, establishing a military alliance. However, after radical changes in Eastern Europe and the disintegration of the USSR in the end of 1990s, Russian foreign policy changed a lot. Russia began to carry out the westward-leaning policy, on the contrary ignored India in the aspects of strategy and policy, which led to big change of India's image on Russia. India did not regard Russia "a permanent friend". So Indo-Soviet relations got worse and cooler in a short time.In the twenty century, Both India and Russia got a rapid development in economy. India revaluated the role of Russia on account of its development. In October 2000, President Putin visited India and signed Declaration on Indo-Russia strategic partnership, which laid the foundation for their future relation. This paper has three main parts. In the first, I briefly discuss Indian's view about Russia. In the second, I analyze the reason of Indian's view about Russia. In the third, I analyze how the Indian's view image of Russia will influence India's policy to Russia. And finally I analyze the relationship of the two countries.
