Since 1970s, China has made an impressive progress in economy and society. But in contrast, the national image had not become better. This is the main difficulty of the national image of China. So what is indeed the main variable that affects the national image? This is the central issue of promoting the national image of China. The present studies are mainly on the relatively fixed reasons, such as ideological difference, China threat and the twist of public media. But they cannot explain the increasing negative trend of Chinese national image in some countries and regions. So this study hopes to verify or disprove the research above and find the main reasons that affect the national image. Meanwhile the Japanese people have shown a down trend in the imitation of China. It is obviously a good case for the study.In theory, this study uses social cognition theory to construct a framework that affects the national image, which regards the national image as a result of social cognition. In this framework, the cognitive subject, cognitive object, cognitive situation affect the national image. Combined with the change of the sense of intimation of china in Japan, this paper designs 10 variable from the cognitive subject(the situation of Japan economy),cognitive object(economy, military and society development of china),cognitive situation(the people exchange between Japan and China and the economic interchange).Through regression analysis, only the change of working rate, China's GDP, people who came to china from Japan and people who go to Japan from china that are obvious in statistics. The change of Japan working rate and the change of the intimate sense for china of Japan move to the same direction; the moves of the change of China GDP, people who came to China from Japan and people who go to Japan from china and the intimate sense for China of Japan move in the opposite direction.At last, it is deemed that the fast development of china's economy has a double effecting on China's national image. On one hand, it will arouse some negative emotion but on the other hand, it is also a effective signal of exhibiting China's national image; moreover, the people judge a country's image by their own feeling, and is insensitive to abstract information such as trade gap, meanwhile the exchange of people not only makes those countries know better but also causes friction among them.
