This is a tentative study of Canadian"soft power"and its impacts on building its image in the United States in 1990s. Through the analysis of the various means associated with the"soft power", this paper argues that Canada has successfully exercised its soft power in boosting its image in the United States. The thesis firstly gives background information of Canada's image problem, and then chooses three key areas of"soft power"to illustrate how Canada boosts its image in the United States. The whole thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part, this thesis mainly introduces the international cultural relations which serve as the linchpin of soft power and play the most important role in boosting Canadian image in the United States. In the second part, this essay states that international education can create the good will between Canada and the United States. Last but not least, this essay introduces the untraditional forms of soft power as the international business and tourism. By distilling some records of achievement, this paper will present some lessons can be learned by others when branding a nation's image in the world.
